Program Overview

The Technology in Racing Mechanics program focuses on the theory, design, building, and testing of high-performance racing engines and vehicles. Students receive hands-on training using specialized racing tools and equipment while working with advanced engine systems, fuel technologies, and performance components. The curriculum covers multiple racing platforms and emphasizes real-world applications in professional motorsports environment.

Program Objective

The objective of the Technology in Racing Mechanics program is to prepare students with advanced technical skills in race engine construction, performance modification, and vehicle systems optimization. Graduates develop the expertise required to service, modify, and build racing vehicles in compliance with current racing rules and regulations, while also gaining foundational entrepreneurial knowledge for independent or shop-based work.

What You’ll Learn

Racing Engine Building & Modification

Building and modification of competition engines (piston or rotary); measuring, setup, and assembly.

Racing Fuel Delivery Systems

Operation, function, and required modifications based on the application and permitted competition specifications.

Racing Automotive Electrical & Electronic Systems

Operation, modification, replacement, and possible variations of the primary and auxiliary electrical and electronic systems in racing vehicles.

Machine Shop Work

Study of the properties, testing, and treatments applied to metal components; use of the lathe for high-precision cutting.

Competition Vehicle Brake Systems

Operation, modification, replacement, fabrication, service, and repair of brake systems, from conventional to full racing setups.

Power Transmission (Differential, Axle, Gearing, Automatic & Manual)

Systems and operation of the transmission, transfer case, and differential.

Chassis & Suspension Fabrication

Tubing modification, fabrication of aluminum components, alignment angles, and aerodynamics, among others.

Racing Mechanics Fundamentals

Configurations required to build a competition car, including chassis, gearbox, and safety; compliance with the regulations and certifications required by sanctioning organizations and race tracks.
